The person behind MKP Magic

Hello, I am David

I am a wedding magician and mentalist based near Chesterfield in Derbyshire. I perform close-up magic and mind reading at weddings across the Midlands, the North and the rest of the UK, and I would love to hear about yours.

1992

The year I started

How it started

It started with a blue coat

In 1992 I started out as a Bluecoat at Pontins, entertaining families on holiday. Two years later, in 1994, I set up MKP, and I have been entertaining people ever since.

Over the years I have performed at parties, restaurants and corporate events. Today most of my work is at weddings, where close-up magic does what it does best: it gets people who have never met laughing together.

MKP Magic is the name I use for weddings. Behind it is MKP Entertainment, my family business.

My style

Close up, warm and fun for every age

Every wedding has guests who have never met, guests who are a little shy, and guests from eight to eighty. My magic is made for all of them.

In your guests' own hands

I perform among your guests, a few feet away, rather than on a stage. The magic happens with everyday things, in their own hands and on their own phones.

Magic and mind reading

A card vanishes and turns up in a photo on a guest's own phone. A word someone has only thought of is read across the table. Every group gets a little of both.

Warm and family-friendly

I started out entertaining families, so children, grandparents and everyone in between can join in. Nobody has to take part, and nobody is ever made the butt of a joke.

On the day

How I work on your wedding day

Your wedding day should be about the two of you, not the entertainer. This is how I make sure it stays that way.

I plan the timings with you

Before the day we agree when I start, how long I perform and where I fit round your photographs, your meal and your speeches. I speak to your venue too, so everyone is working to the same plan.

I arrive early and set up quietly

The close-up magic needs no stage and no setting up. If you have the Magic Mirror or the Audio Guestbook as well, I arrive early and have everything ready before your guests come through.

I dress for your wedding

I dress smartly to suit your day. If you have a dress code or a colour scheme, tell me and I will fit in with it.

I step back for the big moments

I do not perform during the wedding breakfast or the speeches. I fill the gaps around them instead, so your guests can enjoy the meal and every toast.

I work round your photographer

Your photographer still gets every shot they need, and they are welcome to follow me. Guests' faces at the moment of a reveal make some of the best natural photographs of the day.

Short, sharp and never in the way

I blend in with your guests rather than demanding attention, and I keep each performance short, so your day runs the way you planned it.

Peace of mind

The checks your venue will ask for

Venues and planners often ask for these before the day, and couples quite rightly want to know them too.

  • Member of Equity, the performers' union
  • Full public liability insurance through Equity
  • Equipment PAT tested every year
  • Entertaining since 1992, and running MKP since 1994
  • Finalist, The Wedding Industry Awards 2027, Magician category
  • Winner, Mentalism Competition, Northampton Magicians' Club, 2025
  • Over 500 five-star reviews on Trustist, and 218 on Google

I am happy to send my insurance and PAT details to your venue before the day. Just ask when you book.

Collecting my mentalism award

Most of my reviews come from couples and their guests. This one came from fellow magicians. Here I am going up to collect the mentalism prize.

Captions are on. The presentation was filmed from the audience.

More than magic

The rest of your day, in the same booking

Close-up magic is hard to enjoy over loud music, so once the dancing starts the rest of MKP takes over. You still have one booking and one contact, from the first drink to the last song.

Magic Mirror photo booth

A full-length mirror that talks to your guests, takes their photo and prints it on the spot. Part of Twilight Entertainment and The Full Wedding Package, or £325 on its own.

Audio Guestbook

A vintage telephone your guests pick up to leave you a message, so you can hear their voices again after the day.

Wedding disco with Mark

I have teamed up with Mark of Jukebox Mobile Disco, who plays your music, with proper sound and lighting, until the last song. Add his disco to any package for £295, or book it on its own from £395.

Free, and no obligation

Let me show you a trick first

The best way to get to know me is to see me perform. Ring or message me and I will do a trick for you over the phone or on FaceTime, free, or we can meet in person for a demo. When you are ready, send me your date and venue and I will reply within 24 hours.
